Many zoos have animals, but Sir Nils Olav is no ordinary animal — he has a military background.
Much like the Penguins of Madagascar this skipper is unique in his abilities. In 1961, Norwegian King's
Guard Lieutenant Nils Egelien visited Edinburgh zoo, here he was fascinated with its penguin colony. So much so
that he arranged for the Norwegian National Gaurd to adopt a penguin and give it a rank. Sir Nils receives a
rank promotion everytime the Gaurd visits the zoo, the latest promotion being in 2023 when Sir Olav Nils was
officiated as a Major General. When he's not on duty, he lives a happy, civilian life as a fish connoisseur.
